Breast ultrasound is an imaging test that uses sound waves to look at the inside of your breasts. It can help your doctor find breast problems and see how well blood is flowing to areas in your breasts. Breast ultrasound can help diagnose abnormalities detected by a doctor during a physical exam (lump) and to characterize abnormalities seen on mammography or MRI. This modality is used to determine if an abnormality is solid, fluid, or both. Doppler ultrasound is used to assess blood supply in breast lesions.
Breast ultrasound is painless, fast, and easily tolerated. Usually is completed within 30 minutes and the patient can resume normal activities immediately.
